چکیده

Ever since the grid was conceptualized, many attempts have been made to reveal the real essence of grid computing. These models have converged towards the notion of virtualization. This paper is aimed at analyzing the semantics of virtualization. It is shown that resource abstraction is necessary for harnessing numerous diverse distributed resources whereas user abstraction is required for realizing resource sharing. Resource and user abstraction together form the cornerstones ofion is necessary for harnessing numerous diverse distributed resources whereas user abstraction is required for realizing resource sharing. Resource and user abstraction together form the cornerstones of virtualization and define a clear separation between grids and other distributed systems.

Critical Success Factors for Data Virtualization: A Literature Review

Data Virtualization (DV) has become an important method to store and handle data cost-efficiently. However, it is unclear what kind of data and when data should be virtualized or not. We applied a design science approach in the first stage to get a state of the art of DV regarding data integration and to present a concept matrix. We extend the knowledge base with a systematic literature review ...

From virtualized resources to virtual computing grids: the In-VIGO system

This paper describes the architecture of the first implementation of the In-VIGO grid-computing system. The architecture is designed to support computational tools for engineering and science research In Virtual Information Grid Organizations (as opposed to in vivo or in vitro experimental research). A novel aspect of In-VIGO is the extensive use of virtualization technology, emerging standards...

A Comparison of Conventional Distributed Computing Environments and Computational Grids

In recent years novel distributed computing environments termed grids have emerged. Superficially, grids are considered successors to, and more sophisticated and powerful versions of, conventional distributed environments. This paper investigates the intrinsic differences between grids and other distributed environments. From this analysis it is concluded that minimally, grids must support user...

On the Use of Virtualization and Service Technologies to Enable Grid-Computing

The In-VIGO approach to Grid-computing relies on the dynamic establishment of virtual grids on which application services are instantiated. InVIGO was conceived to enable computational science to take place In Virtual Information Grid Organizations. Having its first version deployed on July of 2003, In-VIGO middleware is currently used by scientists from various disciplines, a noteworthy exampl...

A Bi-Level Optimization Approach for Optimal Operation of Distribution Networks with Retailers and Micro-grids

Distributed energy resources (DERs) including distributed generators (DGs) and controllable loads (CLs) are managed in the form of several microgrids (MGs) in active distributions networks (ADNs) to meet the demand locally. On the other hand, some loads of distribution networks (DNs) can be supplied by retailers which participate in wholesale energy markets. Therefore, there are several decisio...
